Well-Defined Objects

Many of the pictures we have met so far, pictures used for commercial purposes, artistic pictures, etc., contain well-defined objects. This means that in terms of the HSL characteristics of these objects, there is no problem in distinguishing numerically the colours of a given object from the background or from other objects. You can always use the rubber tool and rub away until your heart is content.

However, this is not always purely the case, as you will see in the next section (Ill-Defined Objects).
